About

Henshin means transformation. We named the site after the moment a game stops being a product and becomes something you carry with you.

We started in 2023 with no budget and no audience, and we have been expanding ever since — from written reviews into features, photography, video on YouTube and the tools we publish on our Downloads page. We cover the industry closely, but we are not of it.

Over the years we have been trusted with review keys by Xbox Game Studios, IO Interactive and others. Those relationships buy nothing except an honest playthrough, and we say so in every review where a key was provided.

Where we have been

  1. 2023

The Henshin starts in Portugal as a small project, written for anyone who cared enough to read it.

  2. Lisbon Games Week 2023

Our first show floor as attending press, and the point where the project stopped feeling like a hobby.

  3. Over & Out 2025

Invited as jury members for the event run by Lusófona University.

  4. DevGAMM Lisbon 2025

Accredited as official press and media, covering the developer showcase and talks.

  5. 2026

A rebuilt site, our own newsroom tools, and a wider slate of reviews, features and photography.

Review keys provided over the years by Xbox Game Studios, IO Interactive, and other publishers and studios.

Editorial values

Independence

No publisher owns a word we write. Review keys never buy coverage, and we always disclose when we receive one.

Indie advocacy

Small teams make the most interesting work. Our weekly Spotlight exists to make sure they are seen.

Craft

Long-form writing, careful editing and photography treated as journalism rather than decoration.

Readers first

We write for people who play, not for algorithms. Reach us any time at hello@thehenshin.com.

Pedro Lopes

Founder & Editor-in-Chief

Pedro started The Henshin in 2023 as a small side project in Portugal, and has run it ever since. He covers the industry from the show floor as much as from the desk: press and media at DevGAMM Lisbon 2025, jury member at Over & Out 2025 by Lusófona University, and on the ground at Lisbon Games Week 2023. He handles reviews, features and the weekly Spotlight, and is the point of contact for review keys and press enquiries.
