Eight years since its first trailer. Three years since Telltale went through bankruptcy, shutdown and resurrection. At Summer Game Fest, The Wolf Among Us 2 finally stopped being an industry ghost story and became a video game again — Bigby Wolf and Snow White returned in proper new footage, with a release window finally committed: 2027.
The first game's place in the canon is secure: a noir adaptation of Bill Willingham's Fables comics where fairy-tale characters scrape out hard lives in grubby 1980s New York, anchored by the sheriff-brooding of the Big Bad Wolf himself. It was the last full masterpiece of the old Telltale — the studio whose collapse shortly after became one of the industry's great "how did that happen" postmortems. The sequel's survival across corporate death and rebirth is genuinely improbable; that the footage actually looks like these characters is the small triumph that many fans had quit expecting.
The consolation prize for the wait lands much sooner — and it's substantial: a remaster of the original game is coming this holiday season. For newcomers that's the perfect on-ramp, and for veterans it's a chance to remember why "Doctor Swineheart, what seems to be the problem" remains some of the best opening-noir writing in games.
Also spotted in the same SGF readiness check: Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, Shift Up's follow-up to its breakout action game, was confirmed with a new protagonist in a new sci-fi city — with the original's smooth, spectacled combat system confirmed to return intact.
Bigby is back, 2027 is the year, and the remaster is this holiday. The Big Bad Wolf is slow, but he gets there.
