Capcom's crossover department earned its salary twice over at Summer Game Fest: Street Fighter 6's Year 4 character lineup was revealed, and the guest slot goes to Final Fantasy VII's Tifa Lockhart, arriving in early 2027.
The Street Fighter guest-character tradition is long and illustrious, but Tifa might be its biggest single get — a Final Fantasy heroine throwing hands beside Ryu is the kind of cross-brand sentence that would have destroyed the internet in 1997 and did a respectable job destroying it again in June. Capcom's trailers have a real sense of humor about who punches whom in this game, and Tifa shoulder-checking anyone who underestimates her fits the energy exactly.
She's joined in Year 4 by three more original fighters: Yasmine, Arjun and Bosch, expanding the roster steadily into its fourth competitive year — solid longevity for a 2023 release that rebuilt the fighting game scene's foundations around World Tour mode and, crucially, modern controls that let newcomers actually play it.
Capcom's other big drop from the same show was Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, the flagship expansion for Wilds due in 2027, which adds new environments, new mechanics and new monsters — headlined by the return of Elder Dragon Kushala Daora, a fan-favorite storm-bringing nightmare that should pair elegantly with Wilds' weather-driven ecosystems.
Between Street Fighter and Monster Hunter (plus Resident Evil Veronica opening the show), Capcom didn't just attend Summer Game Fest — for stretches of the evening, it was the festival.
